Basic Shapes Project

For this project, I recreated Pikachu from the N64 version of Smash Bros. I only used basic shapes to show the character's overall shape language. Pikachu consists of mostly spheres and ovals, with its jagged tail to contrast the rest of its body. This jagged tail hints that despite how cute Pikachu is, it packs a fierce electric punch.

Process

The process for this project was simple. I downloaded a basic shapes pack created by Nick Zuccarello, and then collected reference images of Pikachu from multiple angles. A spinning .gif of Pikachu from Google was very useful for this. From there, I used the basic shapes to build a silhouette of the character. I added a floor, walls, and light to the scene, and then rendered three different angles of the model. I imported these renders into the template shown in the final result above.
